Iemma/Costa policies cause continuing Labor poll slump

Commenting on today's NSW Newspoll Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said that Premier Morris Iemma and Treasurer Michael Costa's push to sell off the state's power industry and the appalling state of public services were key factors in the NSW government's continuing poll slump.

The Newspoll for NSW has Labor on 33, the Coalition on 40 and the Greens on 13 per cent of the vote.

"Voters are becoming increasingly alienated by the policies pushed by Premier Iemma and Treasurer Costa," Ms Rhiannon said.

"Ironically the key Iemma government policies on privatisation and cut backs in public services are similar to what Coalition governments traditionally support.

"The government's failure to take significant action on climate change is also alarming for voters.

"A Coalition government will be no better than an Iemma government," warned Ms Rhiannon.

"The September 13 local government election is shaping up as a referendum on the appalling performance of the Iemma government.

"The Greens are standing 354 candidates across 51 councils and expect to increase the number of local councillors. There are presently 54 Greens local councillors," Ms Rhiannon said.
