WA GREENS BRING ON CONTAINER DEPOSIT

The Greens will bring in container deposit legislation when the Parliament returns to Parliament in 4 weeks, says Paul Llewellyn MLC for the South West region.

"News polls show that over 90% of the state population want a container deposit system, and will accept a 10c refundable deposit.

The Labor government has failed to honour its commitment to bring in the necessary regulations in two terms of government, so the Greens will do the job for them," Mr Llewellyn said.

"It is a disgrace that WA is now the 'Rubbish Capital' of Australia, according to the Keep Australia Beautiful National Association's report released today.

"A 10c refundable deposit on beverage containers will be a major benefit to the environment and boost our recycling rates."
