Greens Welcome Cycling Coup 


Greens MLC Mark Parnell has welcomed the announcement that South
Australia's Tour Down Under has achieved ProTour status.

"This is wonderful news for South Australia - congratulations to the
Tour Down Under team, including Race Director Mike Turtur, and to
Minister Jane Lomax-Smith, for a great lobbying effort.

"The Tour Down Under is a great promotion of South Australia's beauty,
and a true celebration of cycling.

"Now we look forward to the Rann Government building on the back of the
event to ensure cycling becomes a favoured transport choice for all
South Australians.

"That means more investment in critical infrastructure, such as bike
paths and signage, more end-of-trip facilities including secure parking,
better linking with public transport, and greater safety promotion.

"We need to celebrate cycling here in South Australia every week, not
just the week the Tour Down Under graces our streets," Mr Parnell said.
