Greens MP Lee Rhiannon voted off donations inquiry
Greens MP and donations spokesperson Lee Rhiannon today expressed her disappointment that Labor MPs and conservative crossbenchers voted to bar her sitting on an upcoming Upper House inquiry into political donations.
"NSW Labor, the Shooters and the Christian Democrats are now set to dominate this inquiry which does not bode well for real reform", Ms Rhiannon said.
"Premier Iemma shows no interest in putting his finger in the dyke to save democracy from the millions of dollars of political donations flowing every year to political parties.
"The NSW Greens are soon to celebrate 6 years of a political donations project and a Democracy4Sale website.
"This work is regularly drawn on by a range of commentators and the media to expose the source of donations and the damaging influence of donations on our democracy.
"The Greens campaign for a donations inquiry was picked up by the NSW Liberal Party and is backed by leading academics.
"I will be following the inquiry closely and contributing recommendations for reform", Ms Rhiannon said.
