Greens leader Bob Brown says that the Greens candidates for the Sydney
seats of Wentworth and Kingsford-Smith will visit Tamar Valley later
this week to get a personal insight into the threat posed by Gunns' pulp
mill proposal. They will hosted by the Greens Bass candidate and
Senator Brown.
Susan Jarnason is contesting Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull's
seat of Wentworth, where the Labor candidate is George Newhouse. Sue
Mahony is contesting Kingsford-Smith, where the incumbent is Labor's
environment shadow minister, Peter Garrett, and the local Liberal
candidate is Caroline Bienke.
"Gunns' pulp mill has become a major talking point in both seats and the
Greens are stealing the march on both Labor and Liberal by getting
on-the-ground familiarity with the Tamar Valley and the people and
businesses threatened. They will ask to see a logging operation,"
Senator Brown said.
"We would welcome both Mr Turnbull and Mr Garrett to join the tour,"
Senator Brown said.
