Dame Anita mourned
Greens Leader Bob Brown has today given notice of a Senate motion celebrating the life of Dame Anita Roddick, who died yesterday.
That the Senate:
Notes the death of Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, award-winning businesswoman, campaigner against poverty and for the Earth's environment.
While celebrating her work, her generosity and her life, the Senate expresses condolences to Dame Anita's family and her friends and colleagues in the United Kingdom, the United Nations and around the world.
"I first met Anita twenty years ago and we spent a day testing the leafy aromas of Tasmania's threatened rainforests. She inspired millions of people to be active in world affairs and set new benchmarks in ethical business practice. Her death comes as a loss to the whole world," Senator Brown said.
