Forestry Tasmania suing artist 'politically silly' - Brown

Greens Leader Bob Brown today said the pursuit of young Tasmanian artist
Allana Beltran by both Forestry Tasmanian and the Tasmanian Police is
breathtaking and politically silly.

Forestry Tasmania and the Tasmanian Police are suing Ms Beltran for
close to $10,000 for taking part in a non-violent protest against the
destruction of Tasmania's Weld Valley. Ms Beltran was perched atop a
tripod dressed as a Weld Angel. The Weld Angel image has since been used
in Richard Flanagan's The Monthly Magazine Article.

"The absurdity of this young angel being pursued for damages by Forestry
Tasmania and the Tasmanian Police is a new chapter in the Lennon
government's farcical approach to Tasmanian creativity and beauty,"
Senator Brown said.

"The Minister for Police, David Llewellyn, should explain himself. This
is a case of fools rushing in where the angel fearlessly trod," Senator
Brown said.
