Nannup Bore, truth revealed about Water Corporation’s research.

Questions put to Parliament this week by South West Greens MLC Paul Llewellyn finally confirmed the Water Corporation does not yet have any detailed hydrological modelling or environmental assessments for the bore currently being drilled at Nannup, to supply water to other towns in the South West, despite earlier claims to the contrary.

“Water Corporation claimed in May they had undertaken an environmental assessment and detailed hydrological modelling of the Thomas Rd bore site,” says Mr Llewellyn. “In early June they sent out a press release repeating the claim and adding the bore would not affect local landowners’ bores or surface ecosystems.

“After concerned locals and the Shire requested copies of these reports the Water Corporation did a back flip and claimed that following several years of planning and consultation regarding this bore, they were now undertaking an environmental assessment and preparing a hydrological report.

“My question this week revealed that once again the Water Corporation has been misleading people about its intentions. There is no assessment or report available for a bore they’ve already started drilling, despite years of planning and consultation. 

“The people of Nannup understand the water needs of other South West towns, the problem is they’re not confident the Water Corporation will ensure Nannup’s own water resources are secure before piping it elsewhere.

“The Water Corporation is again using short term, environmentally suspect solutions to our water shortages, such as drilling into the Yarragadee, rather than developing serious water conservation and efficiency policies such as those suggested in the Greens Legislation currently before Parliament.”
