"VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS NOT ON" - Greens
Colleen Hartland MLC has spoken in Parliament about the tragic shooting in
Melbourne this week, highlighting the shooter's violent attitude towards
women.
"The shooting reminds us that some men believe that they have a right to
own women and control them by violent means. This violence can be
physical or emotional."
"The man who attacked these women was a violent offender, even before he
pulled out his gun."
"The men and women who went to aid the women in danger on Monday made a
clear statement by their heroic action that violence against women is not
on."
"As a society we must continue to say violence against women under any
circumstance is not acceptable."
Ms Hartland sent a message of condolence to the family of Brendan Keilar,
who was tragically killed on Monday. "We did not know him but from all
accounts he was a man with a great heart. I know that this statement will
not ease the pain for his family. No words ever do."
"We also send our support to the two people in hospital and their
families", said Ms Hartland
