SA MP's set for another pay rise

Greens MLC Mark Parnell has called for the link between the salaries of
state and federal members of parliament to be cut, as a reported 6.7%
payrise for federal MP's is set to flow on automatically to SA pollies'
wages. This follows a rise of 7% last year.

"Why should SA MP's get another 7% pay rise, just because Federal MP's
do?

"How can the government say that our over-worked nurses don't deserve a
14% increase over 2 years, when we get it automatically?

Since 1999, Federal MP's salaries have increased by 39.1%, while
inflation has risen by just 23.2%. This has automatically flown onto SA
members of parliament.

"The system is simply not fair. A pay rise of this size, far ahead of
inflation, is unjustifiable.

"The automatic flow-on must be cut," he said.
