Howard could host Tibetan reconciliation with China - Brown

Greens Leader Bob Brown has welcomed the decisions by both Prime
Minister Howard and Opposition Leader Rudd to meet His Holiness the
Dalai Lama.

"Australians will be very happy that our Prime Minister is meeting the
Dalai Lama. It will be a popular decision," Senator Brown said.

In the Senate, Senator Brown suggested the Howard government facilitate
a reconciliation between China and the exiled Tibetan leadership and the
Tibetan people.

"This is now achievable without loss of territory to China and without
the loss of a globally-inspiring culture to the Tibetans. Canberra could
well use its good relations with Beijing towards a win-win outcome
before the 2008 Olympics," Senator Brown said.
