Greens back Rudd's republic referendum

The Greens will ensure Kevin Rudd's referendum on the republic if he
wins government and we win balance of power in the Senate, Greens Leader
Bob Brown said today.

"The simple option is 'yes' or 'no' for the republic. Once that is
established the options, including how the President is elected, should
be sorted out. Becoming a republic is part of bringing Australia to full
maturity as an independent nation with an Australian as head of state,"
Senator Brown said.

"A republic is inevitable," Senator Brown said.
