Clean Green Expo all smiles as loggers' fears fall flat
Fears by loggers that their Launceston rally would attract 'extreme
environmentalists' fell flat today as their rally failed to attract less
than half the number of people who turned out to oppose the pulp mill a
month ago, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"The Albert Hall Expo of clean and green Tasmanian alternatives that are
threatened by the polluting pulp mill was upbeat, happy and full of
smiles," Senator Brown said.
"What a contrast. On the one hand this grim fear of the future and on
the other this happy expectation that we can create a future for
Tasmania that will capture the world's imagination."
"The businesses exhibiting in the Albert Hall will all put their profits
back into Tasmania. Gunns' pulp mill will pour the profits out of
Tasmania and into the Stock Exchange. Every day the pulp mill seems to
be on shakier and shakier ground," Senator Brown said.
