Parliamentary recall will see abuse of process - Brown

The proposed recall of parliament to push complex legislation through
both houses for the Howard Government's Northern Territory plan will be
a remarkable abuse of parliamentary process, Greens Leader Bob Brown
said today.

"A recall will happen only a week or so before parliament is scheduled
to resume sitting on the 4th of August. The Prime Minister is looking to
guillotine complex legislation through both houses with no committee
hearings, no public debate and no parliamentary preparation," Senator
Brown said.

"It would be an executive override of the parliament and demonstrates
just how cavalier this Prime Minister is about honouring Australia's
democratic process. Australians are about to see a Prime Minister
gambling that they too don't care, and he will be wrong about that,"
Senator Brown said.
