Howard must give more money for alcohol rehab - Greens

The federal government must immediately commit funding for
rehabilitation services, detox support and counselling services for
people coming off alcohol in aboriginal communities and regional
centres, Senator Rachel Siewert, Greens Indigenous Affairs spokesperson
said in Alice Springs today.

"Just cutting off alcohol without rehabilitation support will make
things more dangerous for kids and is setting people up to fail. Safe
houses and support are desperately needed," Senator Siewert said.

"Unless these resources are provided, extending the dry areas to town
camps will be unmanageable and doomed to fail," Senator Siewert said

Senator Siewert has been in Alice Springs for the past three days
meeting with Indigenous communities and listening to their concerns
about the federal government's intervention.
