David Hicks should experience justice

Greens Senator Kerry Nettle addressed a rally in front of Sydney
Town Hall about the need for David Hicks to experience justice.

Senator Nettle told the rally that if David is not found guilty of
anything by an Australian court that he should go free.

"When Hicks is returned to Australia, he should face justice in the
Australian legal system. If he is not found guilty of anything then
he should be released," said Senator Nettle

"The issue of the way the Australian government has treated David
Hicks will not go away. People will not forget John Howard's
inaction at election time later this year.

"The government response to David Hick's treatment has ultimately
been a victory for public opinion and a victory for the Australian
sense of a fair go that has been crying to Howard government about
fair treatment of David.

"The Howard government has been forced to listen to public opinion
on this issue.

"Public opinion about the treatment of David Hicks has shifted over
the years that he has been in Guantanamo.

"The Greens spoke out for justice for David Hicks in 2003 when
George Bush visited and David Hicks has still not experienced
justice."

"My prediction that David Hicks would be home before the election
has occurred because of community pressure."
