ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey MEDIA RELEASE

Englobo private developments must address affordable housing
Dr Deb Foskey, Greens MLA, has called on the ACT Government to explain
how its plan to offer future land releases to private developers is
compatible with the recently released Housing Affordability Action Plan.
"We welcome the government's efforts to address the ACT's on-going
housing problems; however we are concerned that englobo private
developments might not make adequate provision for affordable housing
and social planning," Dr Foskey said.
"In particular, we are concerned that allowing private developers access
to one third of all new land releases may make it difficult for the
Government to enforce any future affordability requirements."
"I call on Mr Stanhope to provide a clear and detailed explanation as to
how this proposal will impact upon the Housing Affordability Action
Plan. This plan should be the benchmark against which future
developments are considered, whether these be by the Land Development
Agency or private corporations," Dr Foskey said.
