Bonus billion should be invested in 
Australia's future not future fund


Greens Senator Kerry Nettle today called on the government to spend the
extra $1 billion in tax revenues from last financial year announced
today on essential nation building projects.

"A billion dollars investment in Aboriginal health infrastructure,
pre-schools, renewable energy, water infrastructure or another essential
nation building initiative would be very welcome," Senator Nettle said.

"How rich does the government have to get before it agrees to invest in
essential public services and infrastructure?

"The federal government has cut in real terms money to public schools,
hospitals, and TAFE colleges, and has underspent on renewable energy,
water infrastructure and public transport.

"If the government cannot find anything better to do with this bonus
billion than put it in the future fund then it has run out of ideas and
doesn't deserve to manage our tax dollars"
