Rare Native Title win worthy of celebration

Senator Rachel Siewert has urged all sides of politics to support the
Noongar community in the wake of their historic Native Title Win. 

"The Federal Court has only acknowledged the obvious fact that
Aboriginal people in Perth have maintained a "continuing link" with
their lands," Senator Siewert said. 

 "Instead of celebrating, John Howard and Kim Beazley both want the
State Government to fight the Noongar people through the courts. This is
a total failure of leadership. The Greens welcome the findings of
Justice Wilcox and hope that the judgement brings tangible benefits to
the Noongar community. 

 "People are accustomed to John Howard using race issues for political
advantage, but it is terribly disappointing to see Kim Beazley sinking
to the same level," Senator Siewert said.
 
A Day of Celebration for the Noongar Native Title Claim is being
organised for next Thursday, 28th September at 12.00pm on the steps of
Parliament House, Perth.
