Farmers & Greens unite to oppose BHP coal mine

NSW Greens and Gunnedah farmer Tim Duddy will comment on a proposed BHP Billiton coal mine on the Liverpool Plains of north-western NSW.

The coal mine is proposed for the “land of sweeping plains” that Dorothea Mackellar OBE immortalised in Australia’s most famous poem, “My Country.”

Protests against the expansion of the coal industry hot up today when farmers and locals from the Liverpool Plains protest outside a coal industry conference in Gunnedah.

Many local farmers, opposed to a proposed BHP Billiton coal mine, will boost numbers at the protest.

Local Gunnedah farmer Tim Duddy and Lee Rhiannon will comment on the threat to the environment and communities as a result of the coal mining industry.
