A Barnaby choice: it only needs one vote to stop school closures

Dr Foskey's School Closures Moratorium Bill will be debated in the
Assembly tomorrow, Wednesday 20 September, at approximately 10.30am. And
Giralang Primary, along with the other schools earmarked for closure,
could be saved by just one Labor MLA crossing the floor to support the
Greens Bill. 

That is why parents at Giralang Primary School, and their children,
invited Dr Foskey to meet them at the school playground today to hand
over the pictures the children have made about their school.

"I am calling on Labor back benchers to listen to the children of
Giralang, and children across the ACT, and cross the floor to put a stop
to this plan and give families certainty for next year" said Dr Foskey.

"The Greens' Bill puts a stop to the Government's needless disruption to
the lives of students in the ACT.  The 2020 plan is poorly thought
through and will set education back 20 years."

"How best to allocate resources to enhance public education needs proper
consultation, because each school community has different educational
needs.  The Stanhope government's across-the-board school closures fail
to take this into account."

"Labor only has a majority of one - with one more Green MLA in the
Assembly the school closures would not be happening."

"But every Labor member now has a "Barnaby choice".  They could change
the outcome if they are prepared to vote in support of my bill"
concluded Dr Foskey.
