Greens first advertisement in NSW election focuses on global warming

Media Release: 14 September 06

The Greens will unveil their first NSW state election campaign
advertisement this evening at showings of Al Gore's film "An
Inconvenient Truth". According to Greens MP Lee Rhiannon the message
is a strong call to action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ms Rhiannon said: "The Greens are very serious about making this a
greenhouse election. Both the major parties are waiting for the
answer to arrive, hoping the issue will go away.

"We are committed to putting NSW on the front foot. Clean energy,
efficient energy use and public transport not only save the
environment but they produce lots of high quality jobs.

"Our opening shot in the election campaign is a cinema advertisement
that will be shown before Al Gore's excellent movie.

"We want everyone leaving Inconvenient Truth to know that there are
solutions right here in NSW and voting for the Greens is one big
contribution they can make to turning around emissions.

"A big vote for the Greens and more Greens in the NSW parliament will
force the political system to respond to this massive challenge.

"The advertisement will run for three weeks. It signals the beginning
of six months of campaigning to make all voters know that there are
alternatives to coal fired electricity and that they are affordable,
practical and jobs-rich.

"All that is needed is the political will to make the big switch
happen," Ms Rhiannon said.

The advisement is playing before all films at Palace Cinemas in
Paddington and Leichhardt, the Dendy in Newtown and Circular Quay and
the Roseville.
