Senator Milne launches podcasts with climate change message

Australian Greens climate change spokesperson Senator Christine Milne
has tapped into the potential of podcasting to spread the message about
the urgency of addressing climate change.

"Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth, about the planetary emergency
that is climate change, couldn't be coming at a better time in
Australia, where our Prime Minister, John Howard, is a climate sceptic,"
Senator Milne said in her first 'ChrisCast'.

"He said recently that he doesn't support, or doesn't believe the gloomy
predictions that people are making. And yet there is a consensus amongst
the world's scientists that we are facing this catastrophe for humankind
and for the planet.

"This is a moral question. We have to act on climate change."

Senator Milne said she would use her ChrisCasts regularly to update
people on climate change developments and to encourage them to act.

"We know that most Australians are concerned about climate change,"
Senator Milne said in Canberra today.

"Increasingly they know that the federal government is failing them by
undermining international efforts to address this global issue and
leaving Australia exposed to long-term environmental, social and
economic damage from irreversible, catastrophic climate change.

"The government says the Greens are obsessed about climate change. In
fact, the Greens take climate change seriously and we want the Howard
government to do likewise."

An Inconvenient Truth opens in Australian cinemas tomorrow.
