Greenhouse truth 'inconvenient' in Australia too

Deb Foskey, ACT Greens MLA, said today that the film "An Inconvenient
Truth" is a great backgrounder on climate change, and an Australian
version is needed to provide up-to-date scientific information on the
impact of climate change on our cities and regional areas.

"An Inconvenient Truth is a must-see for anyone who cares about the
world their children will live in," said Dr Foskey today.

"It brings the issue of climate change into the mainstream, and shows
that the tipping point applies not just to global warming, but also to
political representation."

"It also shows that states and territories can act even with an
intransigent federal government, as many states have done in the United
States."

"Federal action is important - the hole in the ozone layer would never
have started mending if governments hadn't made an international
agreement to reduce CFCs."

"But Australian politicians will be forced to take action if people are
made more aware of the impact of climate change in their regions -
impacts on ecologies, economies and social life."

"The work has already been done by CSIRO and other scientists. Now let's
present it graphically in a well-marketed film as Al Gore has done so
that everyone - especially politicians and business - gets the message,"
said Deb Foskey.
