*Greens vow to continue the fight against dams*
The Greens have today vowed that they will continue the fight against
the building of any new dams in South East Queensland, including the
Traveston and Wyaralong dams.
Greens spokesperson, Juanita Wheeler, said that the re-election of the
Beattie Labor government last night was by no means the end of the
campaign to save the Mary and Logan Rivers.
“This is a fight we will continue to the last breath. Tonight’s election
result is only the beginning,” Ms Wheeler said.
The Greens have opposed the building of any new dams in Queensland, a
policy put forward by both Labor and the Coalition at the state election.
“The dams are completely unnecessary and will not fill with water until
2020, if they fill at all.
“The Greens have a viable alternative plan which includes a combination
of recycled water, demand management, water efficiency and rainwater tanks.
“Our solutions are economically, socially and environmentally
sustainable, and we are calling on the Premier to get smart and come on
board.”
