*QLD GREENS MEDIA RELEASE*
*Friday 8^th September 2006*
*Greens ask voters to ‘Send a Message’ to major parties*
The Greens are encouraging Queensland voters to send a message to the
major parties that the people of Queensland are not satisfied with their
policies, performance, or empty promises by voting for the Greens tomorrow.
The Greens are encouraging voters to take advantage of the opportunity
to maximise their vote by voting Green and then allocating their
preferences to whichever major party they deem worthy of their preferences.
Greens lead spokesperson, Juanita Wheeler, said it amounted to double
value voting.
“People can vote 1 for the Greens, and if the Green is not elected, then
the full value of their vote is transferred to whomever they choose to
direct their second preference to.
“Voting in this way will see your vote eventually travel to your
preferred major party, but by not giving them your first preference you
are sending a clear message that you’re not happy with their
performance, and they need to pull their socks up,” Ms Wheeler said.
Ms Wheeler said many voters were expressing their opinion that the major
parties had lost their way and had not earned their vote.
“Both major parties refuse to rule out introducing uranium mining, the
Coalition has indicated support for repealing tree clearing laws, both
parties had their health policies condemned by the AMA, and neither
party has presented a plan for the critical issue of climate change.”
Ms Wheeler said the Greens need your vote this Saturday.
“Queensland is facing big challenges, and The Greens have real solutions.
“We will bring honesty and integrity to the Queensland Parliament, and
drive the government of the day to go that extra mile to deliver good
outcomes.
“This time, vote for the Greens.”
