Minchin takes Greens' advice

The Minister for Finance, Nick Minchin, has adopted Greens' legal advice
and will legislate to permit the Commonwealth's sale of its 13%
shareholding in Snowy Hydro. The government made a major blue when it
put a motion, instead of a bill, for the sale to the Houses of
Parliament last March.

"This bill is an admission the minister was wrong," Greens Leader Bob
Brown said.

"Labor leader Kim Beazley should now respond to the huge weight of
public opinion and vote against the bill. With Senators Heffernan and
Joyce, that would block the Commonwealth's sale," Senator Brown said.
