Government must release its legal advice on the Snowy Hydro sale: Brown

Greens leader Bob Brown today called on the government to release its
legal advice on the sale of the Commonwealth's Snowy Hydro shares, after
it rejected legal advice obtained by the Greens that the sale would not
be legal.

"The motions passed by the Parliament approving the sale of Commonwealth
shares in the Snowy Hydro company do not satisfy the requirements of the
Snowy Hydro Corporatisation Act 1997 and are therefore illegal,
according to legal advice obtained by the Greens," Senator Brown said.

"The government has rejected that opinion. The Greens call on the
government to release its legal advice, which says the sale is in
accordance with the Coporatisation Act."

"The government should resolve this issue immediately," Senator Brown
said.
