The campaign to stop the privatisation of the Snowy Hydro scheme will
take to the streets in the next two weeks with public rallies being
organised in Sydney, Jindabyne and Cooma.
A combination of community and environmental groups, supported by the
NSW Greens, are organising the following rallies:
Jindabyne: Sunday 28 May, 11.00am, Banjo Paterson Park
Cooma: Sunday 4 June, 12 noon, Centennial Park, Rally and march to
Snowy Hydro Headquarters
Sydney: Tuesday 6 June, 12.30 pm, Hyde Park, Rally and March to
Parliament House on NSW Budget Day
"The NSW, Victorian and Commonwealth governments are acting in the most
arrogant and reckless way," said Greens MP Sylvia Hale.
"These rallies provide an opportunity for the community to demonstrate
its overwhelming opposition to the privatisation of such an important
strategic asset. The NSW government is completely out of touch with the
community on this."
Opposition to the sale has now spread across the political spectrum to
include politicians from the Greens, the ALP, Liberals, Nationals,
Australian Democrats and Christian Democrats. The sale is also opposed
by an unusual alliance of environmentalists, farmers and irrigators.
