ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey MEDIA RELEASE
=======================================
Tues 16 May 06
In search of Liberal spine
ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey has described the Canberra Liberal Party's response to the Narrabundah Long Stay Caravan Park as incoherent, and called for its new leader to show some moral spine on the issue.
"So far the Liberal Party has been more about sucking up to the business community than sticking up for Canberra's battlers" Dr Foskey said today.
"Mr Stefaniak, as the new Opposition leader, needs to show some moral spine, and come out in support of the residents' call for Consolidated Building and Koomarri to walk away from their grubby deal."
"We know Mrs Dunne believes Koomarri ought to have handed the park back to the government."
"We have heard Mrs Burke tell residents that she hopes they are looked after, and that she's sure no-one meant to do harm."
"Today, in the paper, outgoing Liberal leader Mr Smyth argues that the government 'risks undermining business confidence and investment in property in the ACT '."
"It is my view that it is the property development business which is risking the confidence of the Canberra people, and the onus is on them to give the land back to Koomarri, who should then hand it back to the ACT Government."
"The ACT Government could then complete the project which was aborted by Brendan Smyth in 2000, and work with the residents to make the Park a form of community housing."
" It would help the residents of Narrabundah Long Stay Caravan Park if the Liberal party, under Mr Stefaniak, publicly supported that position" Dr. Foskey said.
