Abetz tells Senate $60m road is for Gunns

Greens Leader Bob Brown told the Senate this afternoon the $60million
federal budget upgrade of Tasmania's East Tamar Highway for Gunns was a
shocking abuse of money, which should be allocated to eliminate
blackspots and on the basis of community need.

In the Senate this afternoon, Tasmania's senior Liberal Senator, Eric
Abetz, volunteered that the $60 million was 'paving the way for the
Gunns proposed $1billion pulp mill'.

"This is outrageous. It is a rort. Tasmania's community interest has
been sidelined by the cosy relationship between the Government and
Gunns. It's a case of 'Gunns rule' and will leave many Tasmanians
shaking their heads at this political patronage based on featherbedding
Tasmania's richest company," Senator Brown said.
