The NSW Upper House has backed a demand from Greens MP Sylvia Hale for
the state government to release all documents relating to the proposed
sale of the Snowy Hydro. The government is now required to release the
documents within fourteen days.
The requirement to release the papers follows last week's decision by
the NSW parliament to establish an inquiry into the proposed sell-off.
"The Labor government tried to sell-off the Snowy without scrutiny or
debate. That attempt has now failed; there will be public scrutiny and
the public debate is now unstoppable," said Ms Hale.
"The government's determination to proceed with the sale regardless
of the public inquiry and the overwhelming community opposition is both
stubborn and arrogant."
"This issue is already hurting the government and it will suffer a
lot more damage over coming months. It is in the best interests of both
the government and the community that the sale be stopped."
"They recognised they were on the wrong path with desalination, they
should recognise that the decision to sell the Snowy is also wrong,"
concluded Ms Hale.
