Environment hot air
ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey has described the ACT Government's commitment to the health of the Murray Darling river system as so much hot air.
"The Chief Minister was quite happy to talk up the importance of the Snowy scheme and the health of our rivers when the sale of the Snowy Hydro was first announced" Dr Foskey said today.
"However, when I asked if he would put his views to the NSW Legislative Council inquiry into the impact of the Snowy Hydro sale, Mr Stanhope advised the Assembly that he hadn't thought to do so."
"The sale of the Snowy Hydro is a real concern for people right across the Canberra region."
"The Chief Minister would show himself to have more substance on environmental issues if he took the opportunity which now exists to make a formal submission to the NSW parliamentary inquiry into the proposed sale."
"Mr Stanhope has said that the only power the ACT government has in this matter is the force of moral argument. That is a very weak force indeed if he isn't prepared to argue" Dr Foskey said.
