Minister must reinstate radiation monitoring at Sydney's nuclear reactor

Greens Senator Nettle, today, criticised the decision of Sydney's
nuclear reactor management to end 24 hour radiation monitoring. She
called on the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training,
Julie Bishop, to ensure the monitoring is reinstated by the Australian
Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

"Radiation does not go to sleep. There must be twenty-four hour
monitoring of radiation levels at the reactor", Senator Nettle said.

"It is appalling the Minister has allowed this to happen. Has cost
cutting come before the safety of the Sydney community?"

"The Minister must ensure 24-hour monitoring is reinstated immediately."

The Greens will question ANSTO and the Minister about the scrapping of
24-hour monitoring at Senate Estimates this month.
