Tingle's legacy - nothing to be proud of

Greens MP and justice spokesperson Lee Rhiannon said today the
resigning leader of the Shooters Party, John Tingle, has been the
architect of measures that have eroded not enhanced public safety.

"During his time in NSW Parliament Tingle has received the support of
both Labor and the Coalition to amend a number of NSW laws that loosen
gun regulation and distort our justice system," Ms Rhiannon said.

"The major parties have shown their duplicity in beating the law and
order drum while supporting Tingle's bills, for example to put firearms
back in the hands of ex-prisoners and legitimise violence during home
and work invasions.

"Premier Iemma should seriously examine his support for the Shooters
Party in the lead-up to the 2007 election.

"It is both irresponsible and hypocritical for Labor to trade public
safety for preference deals with the Shooters Party," Ms Rhiannon said.
