MEDIA RELEASE – REDLANDS 31st AUGUST 2006

*TO FISH OR NOT TO FISH*

Robyn Thomas – Greens candidate for Cleveland – notes the concerns of
the Fishing Party.

She agrees wholeheartedly with their view that Moreton Bay is the heart
and soul of our community, as are the fauna and flora of our lovely region.
Robyn appeals to people to think carefully before voting on a single
issue like fishing as it does not address the real problem.
“Both the Federal and State Governments are major contributors to global
warming through their promotion of fossil fuels. How hypocritical that
they turn around and express concern for the future of fishing in the
Bay,” she said.
“Even small changes in temperature can have a drastic effect on
microorganisms in the ocean. These changes knock on through the food
chain – a domino effect. The science is well documented.
“If we do not take steps to rectify climate change there will be far
fewer fish to catch anyway. A vote for the Greens is the most effective
way to protect the Bay for the future,” she said.
