*QLD GREENS MEDIA RELEASE*
*Sunday 27^ August 2006 *
*Voters declare they’ll vote Green for the first time*
Many voters at the Rainbow Carnival in Bardon today declared they would
vote Green for the first time in protest against the inadequacy of the
major parties.
The declarations were made to Greens candidate for Mount Coot-tha,
Juanita Wheeler and Senator Bob Brown as they walked through the Rainbow
Carnival today on the campaign trail.
One woman said she had never voted Green, had thought she would never
vote Green, but would be voting Green for the first time on 9 September.
Greens lead spokesperson, Juanita Wheeler, said it was indicative of
statements being made across the state as people consider a protest vote
against the major parties.
“Responses we have been receiving from the public indicate there is a
growing protest vote, as Queenslanders determine that none of the major
parties have real solutions to the challenges facing Queensland,” Ms
Wheeler said.
“People are telling me that the old parties have not earned their vote.
Ms Wheeler said elections are all about options, and that Queenslanders
have more options than just Labor and the Coalition.
“If people are sick and tired of band-aid solutions, buck-passing,
arrogance and empty promises, they should forget the major parties, and
vote Green.”
