*Parties and candidates must declare on uranium mining*
All political parties and candidates must declare their positions on
uranium mining to the people of Queensland and their electorates before
the next state election, according to the Greens.

Greens lead spokesperson, Juanita Wheeler, said that every Queenslander
has the right to know what the position of their current and potential
political representatives is on this critical issue.

“There can be little doubt that the issue of uranium mining in
Queensland is a critical one for the people of the state, and is a
significant issue in the state election,” Ms Wheeler said.
“As such, every Queensland voter has the right to know what future
nuclear policy they are voting for when they vote to elect a candidate
and party.”
The Greens believe it is deceptive for political parties to go to the
state election without fully disclosing their position on uranium
mining, both for Queensland and for specific electorates.
“Voters deserve to know whether the political party courting their vote
on 9 September might be the same party consenting to a uranium mine in
their backyard the very next day,” she said.

Ms Wheeler is encouraging all Queenslanders to contact the election
candidates for their area and ask them to declare in writing what the
position of their party is on uranium mining in their specific
electorate and across Queensland.
The Greens oppose all uranium mining, which inevitably leads to uranium
enrichment and nuclear waste dumps in Australia.
“The Greens will be the solar powered light in Queensland, advocating
renewables and energy efficiency which are more job-rich, safe and
defensible options to nuclear.”
