Moratorium Bill

ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey tabled a Bill in the ACT Assembly today to put off any possible school closures or amalgamations until the end of next year.

"It's really a question of trust. The ACT Government does not trust the Canberra community enough to engage it with a real consultation process" Dr. Foskey said today.

"That is why those same Canberra people no longer trust this Labor majority government."

"The saddest thing is that a lot of very good work was being done on public education development by the Education Department; before the Budget - in response to the Functional Review - came in over the top and slashed both schools and jobs."

"Canberra people concerned with school closures should now call on their Labor Party Members to support this Bill in order to give us the time we need to rebuild the necessary trust, and to develop a plan that will support both public education and our school communities" Dr Foskey said.
