Parrot fiasco harms Australian wildlife survival - Greens

Environment Minister Ian Campbell's Orange-bellied Parrot fiasco has
done huge damage to his role as defender of Australia's rare and
endangered species, Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown said today.

"The Minister has huge and very necessary powers to defend the habitat
and safety of our nation's rare wildlife. This fiasco means very serious
decisions to protect species in future will not be made," Senator Brown
said in Hobart.

"Incongruously, while the wind farm fiasco has unfolded, Minister
Campbell's government's barristers are defending Forestry Tasmania's
right to log Tasmania's Wielangta Forest, which is rich in endangered
species like the Swift Parrot, Wielangta Stag-beetle and Tasmania's huge
Wedge-tailed Eagle."

This case is in the Federal Court.
