Greens will not back tax cuts stampede - Brown
The Australian Greens will not join all other parties in persuing tax
cuts and reduced commonwealth revenue, Greens Senator Bob Brown said
today.
"The obvious consequence of the tax cuts stampede is a cut in funding to
hospitals, schools, transport, science, the environment and overseas
aid", Senator Brown said.
"Cutting income for Canberra means more privatisation of health and
education. It also means accelerated growth in the gap between rich and
poor and further erosion of our nation's history of providing equally '
for all of us'," Senator Brown said.
NB: Senator Brown is today visiting Recherche Bay in the far south of
Tasmania, the site of d'Entrecasteaux's scientific expedition's visits
in 1792 and 1793. The area is threatened by logging approved by the
state and federal governments
