Warm-up action for Sunday's Cross City Tunnel protest

Greens MP Lee Rhiannon joined local residents and community activists at the western end of the Cross City Tunnel to kick of a week of lobbying for improved public transport in the lead up to the opening of the Cross City Tunnel.

"Today's protest will highlight that the Cross City Tunnel is not the answer to Sydney's transport problems," Ms Rhiannon said.

"Once again we see a motorway project that robs the people of NSW of sustainable transport solutions. The promised light rail services and extended cycle ways have not been delivered.

"I have battled in parliament for the government to come clean on the Cross City Tunnel contract. Even though we won the support of the parliament for the key documents to be released, crucial financial and planning information has been kept secret.

"We are calling on the Iemma government to increase funding for public transport and filtrate the Cross City Tunnel and other motorway tunnels.

"From traffic congestion to breathing congestion, the Cross City Tunnel remains shrouded in problems and delays.

"Today's action is a warm-up protest for next Sunday's main protest at the opening of the Cross City Tunnel," Ms Rhiannon said.
