Assurance sought from President on leak


In a question on notice, Greens Senator Bob Brown has asked Senate
President Paul Calvert if he or his office leaked details of a private
conversation with the Senate Clerk, Harry Evans (The Australian page 3,
19th August, 2005).

Mr Evans told a Senate Committee that he did not reveal that the
conversation took place.

Senator Brown said that for a president to leak such information would
leave his job untenable. 

"It would be so damaging and dishonourable that he would have to go,"
Senator Brown said.

The Senate sits again on 5 September.
