ACT to miss out on Indigenous funding? 


ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey described the failure of the ACT Government to successfully negotiate an agreement with the Australian Government for Indigenous domestic violence funding as a great disappointment. 

"The ACT Government has continually failed to put its hand up for Australian Government funding for Indigenous programs under the Family Violence Partnership Program, worth $37.3m nationally over 4 years.  I am concerned we might be missing out simply because the ACT won't work with the Australian Government" Dr Foskey said today.

"While Winnungah Nimmytijah health service won a small grant from the related Family Violence Regional Activities Program, no other national funding from these programs has found its way to the ACT."

"There appears to be an opportunity for the ACT Government to take advantage of the Commonwealth funding to provide some additional support here at least, or to conduct additional projects as well." 

"Apparently there are only a few days left before the ACT Government will finally lose the chance to access these funds, leaving me to wonder if the ACT government is simply unwilling to work with the Federal Government on the issue; and is thus cutting off its nose to spite its face" Dr Foskey said.
