Greens prepare Metro Strategy to help ailing government
The Greens have announced that they will prepare their own Metropolitan Strategy, named the Urban Strategy, now that the wheels have fallen off the Government's plans," Greens MLC Sylvia Hale said today.
"We have been waiting too long to see any results from the Metro Strategy, and figure that Premier Morris Iemma and the new Planning Minister Frank Sartor might need a helping hand," Ms Hale said.
"The Urban Strategy will include a series of detailed interactive maps, and a roll out of major announcements of transport, infrastructure and sustainability policies.
"It is disappointing to see the major players behind the Metro Strategy have resigned or are planning to resign. The Greens are determined not to let the strategy die.
"Sydney urgently needs to plan for growth over the next 30 years. We need investment in major infrastructure now so we can cope with added pressures on dwindling water, energy and food supplies.
"The Greens Urban Strategy will focus on sustainable transport such as cycling and light and heavy rail. The Strategy will also address Sydney's long term infrastructure needs," Ms Hale said.
