***** MEDIA RELEASE *****
26 May 2004
Organ backs teacher's strike. Again.
Cunningham MP Michael Organ has endorsed this week's industrial action
by State and Catholic school teachers.
"Whilst I acknowledge the inconvenience that the strikes will cause,
they are a drop in the ocean compared to the problems families will face
in the future if the government does not take eduction seriously. The
starting point here is properly resourced schools, including books,
buildings and equipment for students and appropriate salaries for
teachers.
"Let's not forget that the State government has no-one to blame for this
strike except themselves. If Premier Carr stopped trying to re-open the
NSW Industrial Relations Commission teacher's wage case, this strike
would not be needed.
"This Government should have expected this to happen - its pretty
straight forward. If only the government put as much effort into our
schools, hospitals and railways as it does into making teachers,
students and their families lives difficult. It's a sad day when a Labor
government attacks teachers in this way." Michael Organ said.
