A RORT IS A RORT IS A RORT

The Federal Member for Cunningham has struck again by moving to shut
down the colossal taxpayer funded Parliamentary superannuation scheme,
following his attempt to abolish the Gold Travel Pass for retired
Politicians last year.

"The Government would have you believe that their parliamentary
superannuation reforms make million dollar plus payouts for politicians
a thing of the past. But even the Government agrees that the new
arrangements will have no impact on the existing superannuation
arrangements for sitting Senators and Members." Michael Organ said. 

"If the Government had agreed to my amendments they would have reduced
every politician's superannuation to 9% straight away- just the same as
the rest of the Australian community. What part of that can't the
Government understand?

"Given that the public will continue to contribute over 69% of every
politician's $100,000 plus per year salary as superannuation for current
Members, it is clear that the Governments proposals do not go far
enough.

"The Government's opposition to my fairer more equitable scheme is
nothing short of an elitist sneer.

"The community is right to be incensed to learn that over $504 million
dollars has been put aside for parliamentary superannuation by the
government in 2003 - That's a lot of university places, medical
services, books and resources for our schools and poverty alleviation in
anyone's language.

"The Governments proposals are a mirage, members of parliament will
continue to rort the taxpayer.  What a disgrace that nobody from the
Government or Opposition would support my amendments. 
"Because a rort is a rort is a rort it, excessive Parliamentary
superannuation must be shut down." Michael Organ said.
