Fears of illegal kangaroo shooting on ADI site


Residents next to the ADI site in St Marys have confirmed reports that shooters are illegally culling kangaroos at night, Greens MP and Planning spokesperson Sylvia Hale revealed today.

"Residents regularly hear gunshots on the site between 10:00pm and 4:00am," Ms Hale said.

"At a public meeting last week at least three residents confirmed that they have recently heard gunshots on the site night after night.

"There are no visible carcasses, suggesting shooters are going onto the site in the dead of night, shooting kangaroos and cleaning up after themselves.

"The Greens call on the government to investigate these allegations and protect the kangaroos and emus living on the site.

"An urgent investigation is necessary to determine whether shooters have been hired to cull kangaroos in preparation for development of the site.

"It is unlikely that petty vandals would be up all night, night after night and cleaning up after themselves.

"Residents report that significantly fewer kangaroos are visible on the site than there used to be.

"These allegations raise very serious concerns about who might have hired shooters to illegally cull the kangaroos," Ms Hale said.
