COSTELLO FAILS TO DELIVER ILLAWARRA JOBS AGAIN

Cunningham MP Michael Organ says the Howard government's ninth Budget
has again failed to invest in job creation despite continuing high
unemployment.

"The Prime Minister-in-waiting Peter Costello has chosen not to help the
people of the Illawarra, despite having billions of dollars at the
ready", Mr. Organ said tonight 

"The would-be PM, Treasurer Peter Costello, is continuing to turn a
blind-eye to the unemployment crisis in the Illawarra.  The government
has turned a deaf ear to pleas for investment in job creation schemes in
this Budget, and withheld a surplus of over $2.4 billion dollars despite
the Illawarra having amongst the highest unemployment rate in the
nation."

"The Howard Government continues to lay the boot into the jobless at
every opportunity, blaming them because they cannot find work. While the
government continues to brag about record low unemployment rates the
Illawarra's has been the nation's highest or second highest for the last
year."

"Where is the promise to do better on the jobs front that the Minister
for Employment made to me last year?"

"We need jobs, not excuses."
