Brown says PM's wedding gift is tragic


Prime Minister Howard's gift of a stand of Tasmanian trees to the Danish
royal couple for their wedding is a tragic reflection on his role as
chief executer of Tasmania's wild forests.

"The PM says the gift acknowledges Danish Crown Prince Fredrick and Mary
Donaldson's well known love of the outdoors; how much better that he
actually stops destroying the very outdoors they love," Senator Brown
said.

"Logging of Tasmanian forests and the poisoning of its wildlife is at
record levels since Mr Howard authorised it in his 1997 Regional Forest
Agreement.

"There is something rotten in the state of Tasmania, and it's the
chainsaws and 1080 poison authorised by Mr Howard.

"The Greens will send the couple a photographic essay on Tasmania's wild
and scenic forests," Senator Brown said.
